Larry Correia's "Monster Hunter International" is the first book in an ongoing series, and an amazing read. Based in our world, but with a twist, monsters are real. Of course, most of humanity is not aware of this, because the governments of the world do their best to cover it up, in part, out of fear that the more people who know about some of the things out there, particularly some of the more Cthulhu like inter-dimensional monsters, the more power and influence those creatures will possess in our world. The problem is, things are getting worse. Unknown and evil powers are on the move. Prophecies are being fulfilled. Covering everything up is getting harder and harder, and Owen Zastava Pitt, the main character, is caught up right in the middle of it all. Caught up with Owen is Monster Hunter International, an organization of contract monster hunters who kill evil for profit and the good of humanity, they don't really get along with the government types much by the way. If this story has a downside it is probably that it is the first published work of Larry Correia, and he may have gone a bit too far into the informational descriptions of the weapons involved. On the bright side, Correia knows his guns, so the information he provides is good. On another note, Correia also writes action so well, that you might as well be watching a movie. The book is available from Barnes and Nobles, as well as Amazon, and most other book sellers that I can think of, including a free digital download from the publisher's website at http://www.baen.com/monster-hunter-international.html because they know once you get a taste of the series you will want the rest. Amazon carries it in paperback, or in a free kindle download, and Barnes and Nobles carries it in paperback and audio-book. It is also available on Audible. This isn't a short read either, coming in at an estimate of 457 pages, and if you are worried about getting the entire series, rest assured that each book in the series, while connected, is also self-contained, so you don't get left on a cliff hanger right in the middle of a big scene. Now this story may not be for everyone. If you are not an action fan, don't bother, because action is what happens in this book. Also if you happen to be anti-gun, because as I mentioned, Correia knows his firearms, and uses that to great effect. Judging from the number of high star ratings on amazon, compared to the one or two star ratings, I'm willing to say that the vast majority of readers are going to find this book to their liking, and the plot only gets better as the series progresses. This book is so fun in fact, that one way I might recommend it, would be if you have a teenage son or daughter who doesn't like to read. Get them this book, and I am betting they will change their view around. This is not a stuffy, hard to read classic, forced down their throat by school. This book is fun, action, and easy to read. One of the reasons that some people seem to like or dislike this book has to do, oddly enough, with politics, as one reviewer who obviously didn't like the story wrote "You will love this book if you are Glenn Beck." So it may not be your cup of tea if you are a far left liberal, but right up your alley if you swing more into the right wing spectrum.
